Scholarships for Forest Growers to attend

The Institute of Foresters of Australia and Australian Forest Growers (IFA/AFG) and the Forest Growers Committee are offering financial support to Australian farmers and family forest growers to attend the IFA/AFG’s 2021 National Conference in Launceston. The IFA/AFG, through the Growers Reserve Fund is offering a scholarship pool of up to $10,000 to be divided among all successful applicants.

What is on offer:

  • A scholarship pool of $10,000 that will be divided amongst each successful applicant.
  • In the first instance, the scholarship will be applied to each successful applicant’s conference registration (Conference registration valued at $795)
  • If there is funding available and the successful applicant will travel over 150 kms to participate in the conference, the scholarship can be used to offset travel expenses i.e., flights, transfers, airport parking, with 50% payable on announcement and the balance payable once a final report and proof of conference related expenses has been received.
  • The scholarship will be capped at up to $1,500 per successful applicant.

Successful applicants will be required to:

  • Attend the conference
  • Participate in a Grower themed panel discussion
  • Submit of a 250-word post conference report and a photo from the conference that may be to be published in The Forester

Eligibile applicants will be:

  • A current IFA/AFG member (or prepared to become one)
  • Passionate about growing trees and forests in supporting sustainable and healthy communities, farms and rural landscapes.
  • An active and enthusiastic forest grower who owns or manages tree as part of farm or small family-owned operation in Australia.
  • Australian citizen or permanent resident

Scholarships for Young Professionals and Students to attend

Please note applications for this scholarship have now closed, and successful applicants will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Institute of Foresters of Australia (IFA/AFG) and the Future Foresters Initiative (FFI) are offering financial support to assist students and early-career professionals and researchers to attend the IFA/AFG’s 2021 National Conference in Launceston, Tasmania. The IFA/AFG will provide funding to cover registration for eligible applicants and a grant to assist with related travel and accommodation costs when participants are travelling more than 100 kms to attend the conference.

What is on offer:

  • Up to fifteen scholarships that include:
  • Complimentary conference registration (valued up to $785)
  • Plus, a $750 cash grant to assist with transport and accommodation expenses for people living over 100 km from Launceston. This amount is payable on receipt of tax receipt for transport and/or accommodation expenses. (bookings must be paid for and claimed before 1 July 2021)

Successful applicants will be required to:

  • Register for the conference and provide a tax receipt for claimed accommodation and travel expenses before 1 June 2021.
  • Attend the 2021 National Conference sessions and participate in the FFI events/workshops.
  • Provide a high-resolution image of you attending the conference.
  • Submit of a 250-word post conference report that may be to be published in The Forester and provided to the Department of Agriculture.

Eligible applicants will be:

  • A current IFA/AFG member (or prepared to become one)
  • An early career professional or university student up to 35 years of age studying or working in forest and natural resource management, or related sectors such as agriculture, farm forestry, urban/greenspace planning or other environmental fields.
  • Passionate about the role of trees and forests in supporting sustainable and healthy cities, farms and rural landscapes and communities
  • Interested in developing your leadership skills, forestry knowledge and forestry networks.
